The Twin Cities Flower Exchange is a central marketplace for local, chemical-free cut flower sales direct to wholesale customers. It is the first, and still only, 100% local AND chemical-free wholesale flower market in the United States and is woman-owned and operated.

THE INSPIRATION

As a designer and shop owner, I first sought out local flowers strictly for aesthetic reasons. I was tired of using flowers that seemed rather lifeless. Blah. Blech. Boring. Deliveries from local farms felt full of life and energy. As I learned more about the floral industry and its heavy impact on people and the environment, I made a commitment to use 100% local and chemical-free flowers in my shop and designs. I also widely shared what I was learning about how imported (and a lot of domestic ) flowers are grown. It resonated with others, and as flower farming slowly started to expand locally, it felt like a natural next step to help connect more people to local blooms. I created The Exchange as a central market to do just that and it has been a CRAZY ride! I knew zero about running a wholesale business when I jumped in. My background in design and retail shaped my approach and I think that helped bring a fresh perspective to the business. I have learned so much along the way AND have made loads of mistakes (um, still do:)

TCFE has fostered a dedicated roster of extremely talented farms AND an incredible and supportive community of floral buyers. We are a community of small business owners striving every day to make it work, and I am truly delighted to provide a space where we can all bloom together.
